I make art wear from old clothes, hand-tailored deconstructed clothing for people who like the opposite of mass consumed fast fashion.
At twenty-four I moved to New York City— the fashion capital of America where I began to look for more ways to broaden and perfect my art/design aesthetic. I wanted clothing that could be worn all day, have some utilitarian feature for holding keys without the heavy purse, that could be worn on a bike, to work, and to a night out. Inspired to cut the sleeves off jackets and add them back as pockets or creative collars. I discovered there was a name for what I was doing, deconstruction. The possibilities seemed endless and, as such, an obsession was born.
I married an artist who by osmosis led the way for living an artist’s life. We have three amazing creative kids; all with their outgrown clothes I began to remake clothing for moms, dads, kids, and homes. There were so many new uses for all our leftovers! The more I played with clothes the more fun I had!
Salad Bowl Dress, for me, encompasses everything, it is the world. I really hope that you enjoy what I have made, and the glory behind each piece.
