ART STATEMENT FOR “INSPIRATION”
by Thom Wright, 2017
Our historic past, the present on the cusp, and the uncertain future
Mankind and Nature are now at war with each other
Humanity’s growth, pollution and destruction seem uncontrollable
Consequently, Climate Change seems unstoppable
But this coming catastrophe is self-generated, and potentially reversible
With new technologies, new behaviors and adaptations
Inspire leaders and us to find directions, take actions and set limits
Without succumbing to global internecine war
Eventually to reach a sustainable and interdependent balance
SCA artists Ron Howlett and Thom Wright will be showing their recent art works at the Sunset Beach Art Gallery. This weekend all-media show is part of the Sunset Beach Art Festival held annually on Mother's Day weekend, coming up on May 13 and 14, 10 am to 5 pm. Ron will be showing several watercolors, and Thom will be showing several of his figurative monotypes from his latest series entitled "Jazz Combo". This event is sponsored by the "Las Damas" Women's Club of Sunset Beach, and raises funds donated to local educational groups.
Upcoming at the Huntington Beach Art Center, Thom Wright has entered two paintings, "Jazz Duet" and "Jazz Guitars #4". Most of my work this past year deals with making jazz come alive. The opening reception is Saturday, Jan 28, 6 - 9 pm. This annual show is a very popular classic for artists and residents to attend. Refreshments and music too. Located at 538 Main St., Huntington Beach. Hope to see SCA members there.
