Last year Sharon and I went to a very crowded and unusual art opening at SOCO in Costa Mesa – great food, music, poetry, and a juried art exhibit.
So this year I decided to enter 3 of my wood relief art works and all 3 have been accepted. The 2 venues at SOCO are not traditional galleries but more like designer showrooms with furniture/stuff all around the chosen art works… kind of a treasure hunt!
Venues: CISCO HOME and DESIGN WITHIN REACH
Friday eve November 11 from 6pm-9pm is the opening, and the show runs until Sunday, November 13 at 3pm.
See the evite attachment below and come if you can! 3033 Hyland Ave, Costa Mesa 92626, OFF THE 405 FWY
Randall Holbrook grew up in Huntington Beach, CA, and has worked his way south over the years eventually ending up in cozy San Juan Capistrano where he now resides with wife Therése and daughters Camille and Alivia.
Always doodling and cartooning, his father gave him an old painting box full of oils from his college days that is still in use today. On a trip to New York in 1983, a book by Anaïs Nin introduced him to the French Surrealists and the American expatriates in Paris of the 1930’s, and was instantly attracted to the genre, still a strong influence in his work.
Randall studied painting under Jerry Nicholson, Nick Bokovitch and Master Ning Yeh.
Working in the advertising field as a freelance graphic artist and illustrator has given him the opportunity to use a variety of media and styles, which translates into his painting: each piece is an exercise in techniques, subject matter and patience.
Randall is a member of the Southern California Artists Association. His art is in private collections in California and Utah.
